Tales from Fat Tulip’s Garden
Tales from Fat Tulip’s Garden is an awesome tv series dating back from the 1980s, in which Tony Robinson told fanastical stories about a crazy character called Fat Tulip living in a small cottage.
For whatever reason, there exists hardly any information about this brilliant little series anywhere on the internet, but others that remember the programme have started to collate together memories in the Tales from Fat Tulip’s Garden Forum.
“Fat Tulip is a zany character who lives in a state of forgetful confusion in his messy home and the stories are all set around this peculiar figure and the host of equally odd characters with whom he comes into contact. His adventures and the disasters and devilish tricks which befall him are all told on location with actor Tony Robinson not only telling the stories but playing all the parts in his own madcap style.”

“Surreal, frenetic, semi-improvised short stories for kids told with almost psychopathic conviction by one-time alternative comedian and actor Tony Robinson. No animation, no illustrations - he just wandered around a deserted house and garden haranguing the camera with tales of short, corpulent Fat Tulip and neighbour Thin Tim. Other characters included two long-suffering frogs called Ernie and Sylve, an heroic tortoise called Lewis Collins and a little white shell called Jim Morrison. Even more bizarre than it sounds.”
